Captured in the heart of Pompeii, this image draws from the volcanic power of Vesuvius: a force that creates and destroys, mirroring the cycles of life and birth. The vibrant hues and textures evoke the visceral experience of motherhood, rooted in profound change and the elemental force of creation.
Motherhood is not only about bringing life into the world but also about the birth of a new self. Like the earth reshaping itself after an eruption, Matrescence symbolizes the inner fire of women — a flame that ignites life, endures pain, and fuels the nurturing essence passed down through generations.
It is an invitation to reflect on the metamorphosis of Self and the strength that emerges through this sacred journey.

Matrescence has been selected as an art piece for the ‘Veiling voor Gaza’ (Auction for Gaza) event, where artists and creatives unite to support the victims of the ongoing crisis in Gaza. This powerful work, centered on motherhood and the transformative strength of women, aligns deeply with the auction’s mission: to inspire hope, resilience, and connection in times of destruction.

Matrescence continues this dialogue, focusing on the metamorphosis of motherhood and the elemental forces that shape us, both as individuals and as part of a greater lineage.
