Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
and though they are with you,
yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
– Khalil Gibran
In Celestial Womb, the woman above rests among the clouds, representing the ethereal and spiritual, while the foetus below, curled in the water, symbolizes the physical. Though separate, they are deeply connected, embodying the interplay between the duality of life … spirit and matter, creation and birth, yin and yang. This artwork represents life unfolding above, below, and within us.
The woman gazes upward, at peace with the unknown, embracing the cosmic forces beyond her control. Connected to the etheric, she surrenders to the mystery of creation. Meanwhile, the foetus, suspended in water, brings us back to the earth — vulnerable yet full of potential. This new life, rising from the ocean’s chaos, reflects how existence is shaped by movement and challenge. It is chaos that pushes us. Moves us. Invites us to grow.
How can you honour life’s journey without holding on too tightly to what you create or love? How can you embrace the balance between nurturing and letting go, allowing what is unfolding within you to evolve naturally?
Celestial Womb was first showcased at the UNNATI exhibition, held at Huis Dessert in September 2024. The exhibition explored evolution of the Soul through Art, inviting viewers on a transformative journey of self-discovery and inner growth. It was then presented in duo, Celestial Womb 1&2
